The MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) invited Dr. Scott Tinker to talk about Switch On with Dr. Ernest J. Moniz and Dr. Robert Stoner in a fireside chat.
Like Switch Energy Alliance, MITEI recognizes the importance of energy education. MITEI’s mission is to develop low- and no-carbon solutions to efficiently, affordably, and sustainably meet global energy needs while minimizing environmental impacts, dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and mitigating climate change.
“COVID certainly exemplifies why it’s so important to have electricity in order to be able to provide the public health facilities, for example, with that need,” Dr. Moniz said.
Dr. Moniz served as the thirteenth United States Secretary of Energy from 2013 to January 2017. He is the founding director of MITEI, co-chairman of the board of directors and CEO of the Nuclear Threat Initiative, and CEO of the Energy Futures Initiative. The 2012 documentary Switch features an in-depth interview with Dr. Moniz.
Dr. Stoner is the deputy director for science and technology at MITEI, founding director of the MIT Tata Center for Technology and Design, and faculty co-director of the MITEI Low-Carbon Energy Center for Electric Power Systems. Recently, Dr. Stoner served as one of the judges of the live online International Switch Energy Case Competition finals.
The full fireside chat is available to watch on the MITEI YouTube page.
