The purpose of the hearing was to draw on data and analysis by the United States’ and world’s leading authorities on global climate trends from energy related sectors to consider where and how progress has been made in addressing climate change.
“The U.S. can lead through investment in technology, federal and state incentives, and efforts to find scalable, affordable, timely solutions,” said Dr. Tinker. “Policy makers should resist well-intended efforts to restrict market optionality, which often result in unintended consequences.”
In his testimony, Dr. Tinker cited Switch Energy Alliance’s mission of inspiring an energy-educated future that is objective, nonpartisan, and sensible. SEA is committed to being factually complete, not just completely factual.
The Committee on Energy and Natural Resources oversees far-reaching legislative activity in the following major areas: energy resources and development, including regulation, conservation, strategic petroleum reserves and appliance standards; nuclear energy; Indian affairs; public lands and their renewable resources; surface mining, Federal coal, oil, and gas, other mineral leasing; territories and insular possessions; and water resources. The Energy Committee has distinguished itself as among the most nonpartisan, or bipartisan, in the Senate.
The other witnesses at the hearing included International Energy Agency Executive Director Dr. Fatih Birol, The Manhattan Institute Senior Fellow Mark Mill, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill Assistant Professor Dr. Angel Hsu, and Resources for the Future President and CEO Dr. Richard Newell.
