Empowering the Next Generation of Energy Leaders: SEA President Anne Ekern’s Presentation at ONS Young

At Switch Energy Alliance, we believe in the power of education to drive the future of energy and create lasting change. That belief was front and center when our President, Anne Ekern, recently addressed students and young professionals at the ONS Young conference, an important part of the ONS Energy Conference in Stavanger, Norway.

The ONS (Offshore Northern Seas) Conference is one of the most prestigious energy events in the world, attracting global leaders, innovators, and decision-makers in the energy sector. At ONS Young, a dedicated platform for the younger generation of energy professionals, Anne had the unique opportunity to speak to students and young professionals about the vital role they play in shaping the future of energy.

The Importance of Energy Education

During her three presentations, Anne emphasized the critical need for energy education in the fight to solve global energy challenges. Energy touches every aspect of life, from powering our homes to fueling industries and driving economic growth. Yet, millions of people worldwide still suffer from energy poverty, lacking access to reliable energy sources. The consequences of energy poverty extend far beyond inconvenience—they affect healthcare, education, job creation, and economic stability.

Anne’s message to the audience was clear: the next generation of energy leaders will need the knowledge, tools, and creativity to confront these complex challenges. By providing robust, fact-based education, we can equip young people with the understanding and skills needed to make informed decisions and develop innovative solutions to meet the world’s growing energy demands.

Energy Poverty and Global Implications

One of the key points of Anne’s presentation was the importance of addressing energy poverty. She explained how lack of access to affordable and reliable energy continues to be a major barrier to development in many regions, especially in rural and underserved areas. Energy poverty affects everything from healthcare (think of hospitals that struggle with power outages) to education (where students are unable to study due to lack of lighting or internet access).

By solving energy poverty, we can unlock the potential of entire communities, driving progress in everything from public health to economic development. But solving this issue requires a global effort, and that’s where the next generation comes in. Anne encouraged her audience to think critically and creatively about how they can contribute to making energy accessible and sustainable for all.

Engaging the Next Generation

Anne’s presentations were met with enthusiasm from the audience, sparking engaging discussions on energy equity and sustainability. She spoke about the role that Switch Energy Alliance plays in driving energy literacy through initiatives like Switch Classroom, our documentaries, podcasts, and our dedication to higher education.

By connecting with young professionals at ONS Young, Anne not only shared important insights but also inspired the audience to take action in their own careers. Whether through research, policy development, or hands-on innovation, students and young professionals have the ability to make a significant impact on the energy sector.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, the conversation about energy education and access will continue to be central to the mission of Switch Energy Alliance. By empowering the next generation of energy leaders, we can help create a more equitable and sustainable energy future.

We’re proud of Anne’s work in promoting energy literacy and engaging young minds at ONS Young, and we look forward to continuing these important conversations at future events. Together, we can tackle the global energy challenge and ensure that everyone has access to the energy they need.

Stay connected with Switch Energy Alliance as we continue to develop new resources and content to support education, innovation, and global energy equity.
