Sisters Sarah and Deena Mousa found a profound purpose in volunteering within Cairo's disadvantaged communities when they witnessed the struggle families faced in accessing affordable hot water. Determined to provide a sustainable solution, they established Shamsina, meaning "our sun" in Arabic, with a mission to make solar water heating accessible to all. Recognizing that conventional water heating methods were costly and environmentally damaging, Shamsina opted for a thermal design that prioritized affordability and efficiency, tailored to the needs of Egyptian households.

Their solar water heaters function by harnessing the sun's energy to heat water through a simple yet effective process, offering a practical alternative to traditional heating methods. With 25 units already distributed in a pilot program, Shamsina is poised for mass production, aiming to alleviate energy poverty and promote environmental sustainability across Egypt. Through their innovative approach and commitment to community empowerment, Sarah and Deena envision a brighter, more equitable future for all Egyptians.
