During the fall of 2020, with the support of the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum & Geosystems Engineering at UT Austin, SEA held the inaugural International Switch Energy Case Competition. Over 900 university students from 37 countries, 6 continents, and 171 universities virtually competed for cash prizes totaling $10,000. Two-hundred fifty energy professionals from around the world generously volunteered their time as mentors and judges.
The 2021Switch International Energy Case Competition will continue to challenge students to think critically about how the world can transition to a sustainable, equitable energy future. The 2021 Case Competition was made possible by Chuck and Cathy Williamson. This fall, students will virtually compete for cash prizes totaling $25,000.
Participants do not need to have technical experience or knowledge. Instead, the Case Competition places a premium on multidisciplinary solutions. The Case Competition is appropriate for students pursuing any academic discipline. There is no entry fee. Students may form teams of 3-4 members on their own or universities may assist with putting teams together. Bachelor's and graduate degree students from any major and of any year are eligible to compete; however, each team must have at least two students pursuing a bachelor's degree.
Registration for the 2021Switch International Energy Case Competition will open on September 1st and close on September 22nd. The Case Competition will begin on October 12th. At that time, teams will receive case packets with the official prompt and mentor assignments.
