Spreading Awareness on Energy Poverty: Recent Screenings of Switch On at Arizona State University and the University of Zambia, and an Upcoming Event in Cambridge

At Switch Energy Alliance, we are committed to raising awareness and fostering solutions to global energy challenges. One of our most impactful tools in this effort is the documentary Switch On, which sheds light on the critical issue of energy poverty and the profound impact that energy access can have on communities around the world. Recently, two exciting screenings at Arizona State University and the University of Zambia brought this powerful message to students, and an upcoming event at the Cambridge Science Festival is set to continue the conversation.

Arizona State University Screening – September 3rd

On September 3rd, Arizona State University hosted a screening of Switch On at the Vista Del Sol Theatre, providing students and faculty with an opportunity to explore the challenges of energy poverty. The event was followed by a dynamic Q&A session with Dr. Scott Tinker, who shared insights from the film and answered thought-provoking questions from the audience.

The screening opened students’ eyes to the realities faced by billions of people around the world who live without reliable energy. The conversation went beyond the film, delving into the importance of energy access for driving economic development, improving healthcare, and supporting education in underserved regions.

Dr. Tinker’s Q&A session was especially inspiring, as he shared stories from his travels and encouraged students to think about how they can contribute to solving energy challenges both locally and globally. The event left students feeling motivated to continue learning about energy issues and to consider ways they can be part of the solution.

University of Zambia Screening – August 24th

On August 24th, Uhuru Energy collaborated with the University of Zambia Students Union to host a screening of Switch On at the University of Zambia. The screening was attended by over 200 students, making it a landmark event in promoting energy awareness in Zambia.

The screening ignited a passionate discussion about energy poverty in Zambia and Africa at large. With the country facing significant energy challenges, the film’s message resonated deeply with the students. The event encouraged Zambia’s youth to take an active role in addressing energy issues, with many students expressing a desire to pursue careers in energy or to advocate for better energy policies in their communities.

The discussion following the film was filled with optimism and the belief that young people can help lead the charge in solving Zambia’s energy crisis. The event not only raised awareness but also inspired students to take action, sparking new ideas for potential solutions to the energy challenges that affect so many across the region.

Upcoming Screening at the Cambridge Science Festival – September 24th

We’re excited to announce an upcoming screening of Switch On at the Cambridge Public Library as part of the Cambridge Science Festival on September 24th.
