SEA is thrilled to introduce its team of talented interns who are passionate about energy education and addressing global energy challenges.
Roopmati Meena, an M.Tech + Ph.D. student in Energy System Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, is a dedicated Switch International Energy Case Competition (SIECC) intern. With a passion for creating a sustainable future, Roopmati focuses her research on innovating the photovoltaic (PV) sector. She aims to improve the reliability and longevity of solar technology by investigating and characterizing degradations in crystalline silicon PV modules.
Roopmati's commitment to pushing boundaries and thinking critically has motivated her to participate in SIECC for the past 3 years. Her team's outstanding analysis and presentation on energy poverty solutions in Ghana earned them the victory in the competition last year. Beyond her academic pursuits, Roopmati finds joy in gardening, chess, sudoku, and reading.
“Together, I believe we can illuminate a path to a sustainable future!” - Roopmati Meena

Shruti Prajapati, a junior Energy System Engineering student at IIT Bombay, is another accomplished intern contributing to SIECC. With a deep enthusiasm for energy-related issues, Shruti actively engages in projects and competitions related to sustainability, energy planning, and energy efficiency. Participating in SIECC for the past two years, her team's investigation and presentation on energy poverty solutions in Ghana led them to victory in the 2022 competition.
Shruti values SIECC for its ability to provide a multidimensional perspective on various energy scenarios worldwide. Her curiosity extends beyond academic pursuits, as she enjoys dancing, creative writing, traveling, and photography.
“[I am] looking forward to connecting more with the world and giving my contribution to a healthy and sustainable society.” - Shruti Prajapati

Ava Templeton, a junior Environmental Science major at the University of Texas at Austin, plays a vital role in supporting SEA's programs and science marketing & communications efforts. With a geology-based track in her degree program, Ava focuses on investigating rock formations and systems as indicators of environmental health. Additionally, her minor in Law, Justice, and Society positions her to bridge the gap between science and policy, emphasizing the importance of environmental issues.
"My goal is to be able to work with government officials and policy makers to effectively communicate environmental needs and ensure a more sustainable society for future generations." - Ava Templeton
Beyond academics and SEA, Ava enjoys swimming, running, outdoor activities, and engaging in community service through organizations like Keep Austin Beautiful and the Zavala Afterschool Program.
